The aim of the Winter School is to enable sustainable communication between students, scientists, urban planners and interested citizens of both cities, in India and Germany. During the coming days of this Winter School this homepage will serve us as platform to present and discuss ideas, texts, visuals - the beginning of a communication that hopefully will grow into a sustainable and constructive long-term exchange.

प्रस्तावित शीत कालीन स्कूल का उद्देश्य भारत एंव जर्मनी के छात्रों, वैज्ञानिकों, योजनाकारों और इच्छुक नागरिकों के बीच स्थायी संवाद कायम करना है। आने वाले दिनों में इस होम पेज पर विचारों, दृश्यों और चर्चाओं को प्रस्तुत किया जाएगा और इसे आपसी संवाद के एक मंच के रूप में विकसित किया जाएगा। यह मंच विचारों के स्थायी, रचनात्मक एंव दीर्घकालीन आदान-प्रदान की दिशा में, सुन्दर वादियों में बसे दो खूबसूरत शहरों - देहरादून और ट्यूबिंगन, को बेहतर समझने का एक प्रयास है।

Ziel der Winterschule ist es, eine nachhaltige Kommunikation zwischen Student*innen, Wissenschaftler*innen, Stadtplaner*innen und interessierten Bürger*innen beider Städte in Indien und Deutschland zu ermöglichen. In den kommenden Tagen wird diese Homepage uns als Plattform dienen, um Ideen, Texte und Bilder zu präsentieren und zu diskutieren - der Beginn einer Kommunikation, die hoffentlich zu einem nachhaltigen und konstruktiven langfristigen Austausch werden wird.

Rethinking Smart Cities as Green Cities
What makes urban life in the 21st century worth living? Is urban planning possible that combines the needs of residents for modern infrastructure with environmental protection, economic success, social justice and the preservation of culturally important sites? Can new approaches from anthropology help to support activists, scientists and urban planners?
The event will focus on different objectives and implementation of sustainable urban development in India and Germany. The value of environmental local cultural heritage and its compatibility with economic progress will be intensively discussed and researched with Indian colleagues.
The Summer School (now Winter School) plans to create a new form of professional and cultural exchange and learning by presenting and discussing concrete developments in sustainable urban planning in the two cities of Tübingen and Dehradun from an anthropological perspective and with interdisciplinary expertise. The aim is to initiate and promote discussions on the possibilities of sustainable infrastructure. In all their diversity, the cities of Dehradun and Tübingen have a lot in common.
